Well World champs is done. I am officially the 82nd fastest 50-54 year old in the world ! This is a little further down than what I planned however I left nothing in the tank so am happy. Very wet conditions made for a lot of carnage on the bike and staying upright became a priority. My result today became a non issue as one of the most gut wrenching moments for me this morning also became one of the proudest. I was corralled in the swim start area just as Ruth started and had to stand hopelessly and watch as she had a panic attack and could not swim. I watched for almost 15 minutes with tears in my eyes as she struggled from one safety kayak to the next, just wanting to dive in and swim to her,I was directed into the water just as Ruth disappeared behind the start pontoon . As the starter gave us the 30 second warning, over my shoulder I saw Ruth walk up the exit ramp. Last out of the swim by a long way. Continuing in the wet and cold Ruth beat home 8 of her age competitors to receive a World Championship medal. There is NO prouder Team Australia representative today than me.
