Well, a good morning service at the church today. I played and sang four secular tunes, by John Prine, Warren Zevon, Rolling Stones, and Paul Simon respectively. Also led three hymns, and played the music behind the Offertory and the Doxology, and a final circle sing-along. Reverend Bob Ritchies sermon about false piety and religiosity was great. It all went well, I thought . . . . What was a bit odd was that I, along with Bob and one other congregant, were the only men in the church. The entire remainder of the congregation was female -- and many of them older women. My first song was Angel From Montgomery -- and I felt immediately connected: I am an old woman. . . . They seemed to like it.
