Well after a brilliant week on the silver festival at white acres - TopicsExpress

Well after a brilliant week on the silver festival at white acres im just having a little think about how different it is to the fishing I do up north ! Ill just give a little insight into the biggest things ive personally picked up its been a real eye opener for me. Bait and feeding Ive never fished the silvers festival at White acres before so didnt know what to expect obviously I did a bit of home work before hand but I just wanted to approach each day as it came,I was going to sit down and just do what I wanted to do and see what happens after all its not a team event so if you screw up your not letting anyone down saying that after I drew on the first day (11 twin oaks) I had a quick chat to grant albutt see what he thought of the peg and what I was fishing for, you needed to catch skimmers and f1 to do any good so that was my plan now would my approach be the right approach ?😳 On arriving at my peg and having a plum up I decided to lose feed caster be hand at 6m then a maggot line at 13m at 10 o clock and a gb and worm line also at 13m but 2 o clock angle i also set up a margin for caster in 3 foot depth. Things didnt go well at the start to say the least 😣, i fed half a pot mags on the one line and a ball (tangerine size) on me gb started short catching odd roach but not the f1/skimmers Id hoped for I was really banking on the maggot line being the kiddy ( it is on most northern venues ) I kept trying but got bitted out no matter how many mags i tipped in ! so I had a look over the gb and had a decent skimmer straight away I topped up with a golf ball of worm/gb (old ghost green algae/f1) And had an f1 immediately so at I decided to change the maggot line into a second gb line and simple alternated each line till the end ( catch a fish, feed switch lines repeat ) really simple fishing I ended up winning the section with 55lb I was lucky really, but what really surprised me was catching f1 over worms and gb if Id fed like this at my local venues I would not get a bite FACT ! I spoke to Wakelin about it and said its just totally different to any other venues we fish at home, the fish seem to want feeding to trigger them to feed were at Northern venues you have to kind of trick em to have a chew. Corn Although I catch on corn up here its normally a case of dobbing single bits about,or feeding odd grains here and there , thats certainly not the case at the acres ! on Jennys in particular ( although I drew wank 😔) they feed 3/6 large tins on a waggler catching 40/60lb of carriso awesomes sport if you land on them ! Floats, lines hooks elastics The really eye opener is how light you can actually get away with when fishing for f1s I went little gung ho elastic wise I took 5x MAP yellow(hollow) 5x preston black 8 5x preston blue 5s I fully expected to be on the hollow but that wasnt the case it just didnt seem right and on speaking to the really top lads down there most used a 5/6s solid for the f1s or a double 3s and 3/4s for the short line work really light but it worked perfect. Hook choice is very personal affair but the trusty green and black gammas faired well obviously with the weather being as mild as it was a lot of carp were hooked (tom Schoey hooked 40/50 one match!!) it was really really surprising how many big carp ie over 5lb were being landed on .7 bottoms and green gammas standard roach fair for most lads and to be fair I Have wondered if they were strong enough for that in the past not anymore Deffinalty something Ill be playing with now Im back home ! Floats ! theres millions out there but do we really think about them ??? I didnt enough I dont think Im a massive fan of wire stemmed floats I use them for 95% of my fishing but after what Ive seen last week its changed my mind somewhat there are Deffinatly occasions when a glass/carbon stem is superior I had the good fortune of spending the week with float making legend Mike wilkinson and after some lengthy conversation its opened my eyes when its flat and still you WILL get better presentation with a glass float its as simple as that lets put it this way I wondered upto the legend that is Matt Godfrey one match a lad I hold in high esteem and he didnt have 1 wire float set up something Ill be changing from now on me thinks. Fingers burning now so catch YA laters baggers 😊
