Well, after over a week of pathetic, lonelyhearts whining, its time I posted some gratitude. Last week I went in for my every-so-often bloodwork and pee test for diabetes. Got a call Friday morning--Greg, we need you to come in and let us do an ultrasound of your kidneys. It looks like you may be developing the same polycystic kidney disease your father has. Polycystic kidney disease, for those who dont know, is repeated development of cysts on the kidneys. Its an inherited condition. Not cancerous, but they can lead to high blood pressure, headache and pain and eventual renal failure. You can literally go decades and be asymptomatic (Dad did) but once symptoms start its hard to stop that train. Dads on dialysis these days and....not enjoying it at all. So I go in for the ultrasound that afternoon, spend an absolutely delightful weekend when I already had enough on my mind, go in for the appointment I had scheduled this morning anyway, and... My kidneys are fine. One cyst, but the doctor says hes never seen anyone my age that didnt have at least one cyst. I dont have it, and if it hasnt developed by this point it probably never will. I didnt get the gene and my kids are safe too. Furthermore--my blood sugars are more or less normal and Im down 13 pounds since the last time I was in. Lauren Robson, thanks for your help with that part. Your brutal, sadistic, tortuous help. Blood pressures a little high but with my calm, easygoing, sunny disposition Im sure we can get that under control. So Im very grateful. Thanks for those of you who knew about this and prayed. To celebrate, I will now go out and consume a complete can of lard!!
