Well after waaaay too much work I think I have gotten my gear - TopicsExpress

Well after waaaay too much work I think I have gotten my gear lists finished up for my Mojave hike. yogiing/bc8e -- is for Sections 1 & 2, though I doubt I will make it to section 2. yogiing/11a3 -- is for Section 3, if by some crazy chance I make it that far. Electronics are a bit of an ouch on this trip at 1183g (41.73oz / 2.61lb) but it is just a reality of being out on a route that has never been hiked and needing a GPS to properly map the route, as well as the SHTF satphone/PLB. FSO weight is crazy high because of the Solumbra by Sun Precautions clothing that I will be wearing, but oh-so-worth-it for me!! I absolutely would not even attempt this hike without the Solumbra clothing outfit. An absolute must for me and a huge thanks to them for sponsoring me on this hike! Speaking of which, I am going to be trying out the Solumbra Parasol sun umbrella to see how it will compare to the all-mighty GoLite Chrome Dome, which as I am sure all of you have heard by now, is going bye-bye with GoLite going out of business. It is, sadly, about 3 ounces heavier than the ChromeDome, but its a lot beefier so it should handle the strong desert winds better. Will be interesting to see if it will be a viable replacement for all of us umbrella lovers. It is one of those items I would not even take, given I will be using the Solumbra Ultimate Crusher hat, and therefor not even need an umbrella, but, this trip is as much about testing gear as it is the rest of things. I have struggled with the decision of going with an Enlightened Equipment Revelation that I bought last month, or a Mountain Laurel Design Spirit 28 that I just bought a couple days ago. They are about the same weight. At this point I have the Spirit 28 in my gear lists, but still not sure which will make it into my backpack when it comes time to load things into it. I am trying to make the switch to using Climashield Apex in as many products as I can.... @aaron.sorensen.9 has caused this change in my life... so the MLD Spirit will probably be the one I go with. It is crazy how fast things add-up... it seems like it has been a long time since I put together a gear list, as I usually just grab and go and know what I need, but with this trip, I needed to make sure I had everything, so the little checklist feature of yogiing will become a necessity when its time to back up in a few days. Beyond the quilt indecision, the only thing that I am still tossing-and-turning about is whether I should use the Arc ZIP backpack or order up a Six Moon Designs Fusion 50. The amount of water I am going to have to be carrying is probably going to be... ok... it IS going to be... more than what the ZPacks Arc frame is designed to handle. Being out on a route I am pioneering with a backpack I have designed just seems like it would make it all that more special... but I suppose it really just comes down to the fact that I dont want to buy yet another backpack... sigh. I also have ~11 ounces of other gear that I will be taking that I cannot disclose (on the gearlist it is indicated as NDA Gear) which I will be T&Eing. It is just a few items companies want me to test out, but require an NDA, so if you see that and wonder what it is, my apologize. Oh, and I remembered to add my maps to my gearlist this time... lol... cannot count the times I have forgotten to add in the weight of maps to my gearlists in the past. 3.5 ounces for a few sheets of paper in a ziplock bag... sheesh ;) Anyway... I am sure I missed a thing or two and/or added a thing or two that I did not need... you all know how it goes. (y)
