Well, another Saturday passed with Frontline for Hope airing a great episode truly showing what Childrens hospital does so well. A few things jumped out at me with this particular episode: 1- Sam had some form of each treatment that the other children were featured in. He went through a experimental transplant, major resection surgery as well as extremely difficult reconstruction. [Over a third of his nose and half-dollar size of his cheek had been removed in the original tumor resection, therefore it had to have major reconstruction where they used cartridge from behind his ear to form a new nostril. Amazing, and Dr. Leonard and Dr. Chi had done such an amazing job. We came to really love these two surgeons, they are just as good people as they are surgeons.] Then Sams genetic make up and diagnosis were reviewed multiple times in Wash Us Human Genome research. Then of course the high does chemos and all of the awfulness that came with that. He truly went through the gamete 2- We were in transplant our first two weeks with Tres and while we never met him (isolation) we spent a decent amount of time with his mom Bridgett. She is a beautiful person inside and out. We have not stayed in touch but we truly hope the best for Tres and their family. Episode 4 is linked below. Thank you to everyone who continues to watch, these episode are exactly the reason more research is needed... In the last week I have watched 7 more children gain their wings and 2 go home in hopes of finding comfort and peace in their last days. I find myself hurting so badly not only because of my still raw pain but knowing what those families are now facing, and knowing I cant do anything that will help. What we can do for Sam, for each of them is to remember them with every step toward finding better treatments and eventually a cure. I will not let this continue to happen without a fight. Our hearts are prayers are with the families of Alaiyna, Kenadie, Ethan (not Sam s friend), Nicole, Brayden, Aaron, Logan and praying for comfort for Ian and Brylee. childrensforhope/episodes/season-2-episode-4/#.
