Well archery hunting is a game of chance. Your always hoping you will get lots of chances to fill your tag. They say success is where opportunity and preparation intersect. Ive had a close encounter most ever day. I mean heart pounding thinking this is my big chance encounter. With just a few days still to go its just a matter of time until an old rut crazed bull slips up. Finding the bull and cutting him off in the thick terrain is challenging. My good buddy Gary Howell is going to bugle for me when hes not working. Gary lives in Arizona and knows drawing a tag is a game of chance, truly a hunters lottery. He told me a year ago keep applying you could get lucky. Arizona Fish and Game Dept. does a very good job managing their wildlife. Their forests are beautiful and clean. This is by far one of my best hunts ever. On Sunday evening I hiked up on the rim and spotted a huge bull probably in the 400 range down in the desert floor. He was racking a tree and had no cows. He was too far away to think of putting a stalk on him. I also called for my hunting partner and he got within 50 yards of a shot on a 370 bull with 6 cows. Its very hard to get a shooting lane in this thick terrain.. Most bulls are running solo, they havent herded up their cows yet. Bugling shutdown over the weekend due to too many vehicles suddenly in the woods. Lots of people scouting for their next hunt. After the crowd cleared out the bugling began again. We can hear elk all night while we are trying to sleep back in camp. Two weeks is a long hunt to be gone. We planned well for this hunt. We have all the comforts of home except for my washing machine. We have had to wash laundry in camp and it sure makes you appreciate a washer and dryer. Cloth line in camp looks pretty classy. Enjoy life its short, go hunting...
