Well as some as you may of seen some of these pics before as I posted back in the end of August as if anyone knew what this lump could be. We went to the vet and they aspirated it and sent sample to the lab which came back negative for infection and a there were a couple of A typical type cells which the vet said he wasnt concerned because he was only 15 months old. They thought hematoma and said that it may go away on its own. I always go for 2nd opinions and the 2nd vet said probably a hematoma as well and he looked at lab results and said he wasnt concerned as well. 3 weeks go by and the lump is getting bigger. We took him back to 1st vet which they game him antibiotics because he had a swollen lymph nodes in right back leg. Vet said he recommended a biopsy to investigate more. Went back to 2nd vet he said biopsy as well. During this whole time Reks behavior remained the same, he was eating/drinking normal, his activity level never changed. We decided instead of doing biopsy locally we would drive down to Purdue and have them do a CT scan as well as a biopsy. His lump continued to increase in size as you can see from the pics. I called Purdue at the end of Sept and they told me they couldnt see us until Oct. 7th so I told them ok. On Sept 30th is when Rek started to take a turn for the worst. He was bleeding out of his nose, lethargic, didnt want to eat so I called Purdue to up the appointment and they couldnt get us in unless we went to the emergency which is an extra $500 on top of $1800-$2000 they quoted us to do his ct and biopsy and other test. I told them let me call them back and thankfully someone cancelled their appointment so we were able to go Oct 2nd. Overnight Reks right eye became swollen and the whole drive down to Purdue he was restless. I was worried and vets took him to do ultrasound, xrays of his chest and abdomen and blood work right away. They couldnt perform the Ct scan till following day as it was booked the whole day. Doctor came back after ultrasound and said they saw some nodules in his lungs and wanted to extend ct scan from just his head down to include his chest to look at his lungs. He came back into the room and didnt look like my boy anymore. I was so upset to see him like this. I wanted to take him to the hotel with us but the doctor said he had a high temp of 103.7 and it was best if he stayed so they could monitor him overnight. Next morning at 7am I get a call saying Rek isnt doing good and they moved his ct scan to first thing. His temp had reached 105.4 and he didnt want to get up to go potty out so we rushed down there and waited. Doctors came and told us he had a large mass in his right sinus cavity and a small one forming in his left. The mass had eaten through the bone that protects the brain and started to infect his brain. I told them no more test bring him out of anesthesia so we could be with him. The doctors said there wasnt much they could do as this was very aggressive and the lump was just the tip of the iceburg. I felt so guilty and heartbroken as I laid with him on the floor balling my eyes out. We spent some time with him before we decided to let him go. It was by far the hardest thing Ive ever done. I lost my best friend that day :( Necropsy results came back yesterday and I spoke with his vet which she explained he had olfactory neuroblastoma which is rare cancer that can occur in young dogs. The cancer had spread to his lungs and to his lymph nodes in his jaw. I miss my baby so much and just hope and pray we did the best we could. I just feel horrible. I know some of you wanted to know what the outcome was and unfortunately the worst case scenario happen. Thanks for listening.
