Well-bred three-year-old The Right Answer left no doubt about his talent after making the perfect start to his career at Ashburton this afternoon. The son of Wellfield’s champion first-season sire Alamosa had been a winner at the Rangiora trials last month and followed up with a decisive raceday debut performance in the hands of Terry Moseley. The Right Answer is prepared at Yaldhurst by owner Ross Beckett, who went to $20,000 to secure the bay gelding at last year’s NZB Ready to Run Sale at Karaka. He was bred by Peter and Philip Vela and is out of the winning Night Shift mare Macchiato, who has a perfect record at stud with all four of her foals to race having now won. They include the Australian stakes winner Harb. Macchiato is also a half-sister to the black type winner and Gr.1 New Zealand Oaks runner-up Filante Etoile and the family of the dual Gr.1 Auckland Classic and Gr.1 Futurity Stakes winner Star Dancer.
