The best bits of Sunday Show on Hromadske International 2014: Hanna Hopko, a long-time Ukrainian activist took part in these protests and took center stage as she called for reforms in Ukraines notoriously corrupt government. On the one-year anniversary of the Maidan protests, Hromadske International co-hosts Ian Bateson and Nataliya Gumenyuk sat down with Nayyem and Hopko to hear their thoughts about what has- and hasnt- changed since the Maidan protests began in Ukraine. The deputy head of President Petro Poroshenkos administration, Dmytro Shymkiv, talked with Hromadske International about how to prevent the reform process from becoming a game of political infighting and what Ukraine needs to build a more European system of governance. Special guests include a professor of history at Yale University, the worlds most renowned expert on eastern Europe. The hope is that Ukraines parliamentary election will help get the country back on track politically so that Ukraine begin a series of much needed reforms, said Andrew Wilson, a senior policy fellow with the European Council on Foreign Relations. Dr. Wilson recently wrote a book on recent events in Ukraine, The Ukraine Crisis: What it means for the West. Ukrainian soldiers take Hromadskes film crew on a tour of their dugouts at the front lines in the Donbas region, where the bulk of recent fighting has been concentrated. In the past two weeks, these soldiers with the 128th Mechanized Infantry Brigade said theyve seen an increase in shelling from the separatists in their area. Hromadskes art team sat down for an interview with Ukrainian illustrator Serhiy Maidukov, whose work has been published in Esquire Ukraine, The Boston Globe, The Architectural Review and other publications. Maidukov is originally from the Donetsk region and has followed recent political events in Ukraine very closely. Micheal Weiss, Editor-in-Chief of the Interpreter and co-author of the report, The Menace of Unreality: How the Kremlin Weaponizes Information, Culture and Money. Andreas Umland, a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Euro-Atlantic Cooperation, told that Far Right in Ukraine arent a big threat. In the heart of Kyiv, a traditional Christmas Market opened to Kyiv residents and visitors. In the centre of it, is a 24-meter 80-year old evergreen tree presented to the City of Kyiv by the government of Ivano-Frankivsk.
