Well done Labour Cllrs. for a sustained campaign to keep respite - TopicsExpress

Well done Labour Cllrs. for a sustained campaign to keep respite care beds open. Yesterdays Cabinet Meeting is on my mind and the way that members of the public spoke up for the care service provided by the publicly owned and run Hollins View and Lincoln House. Their passion and eloquence forced a change of policy on Cheshire East Council Tories. Up to that point, in spite of the obvious nonsense of a policy that closed facilities in the name of increased choice and furthermore showed undying faith in the capacity of the private sector to provide under all circumstances , the Cabinet (all sensible intelligent people who can add up and take away) were prepared to mindlkessly go along with Cllr. Clowes proposition. Thank goodness members of the public that use the facility made them see sense at last. The leader popped out for 10 minutes with Cllr. Clowes and Peter Raynes and low and behold another £1million was found (yes that is what was said another million) to keep the respite care beds open for a further year. Cllr. Clowes had to swallow her words and propose that the increased choice programme went ahead including the public provision. The forthcoming elections in May had nothing to do with the change of heart I am told.
