Well done to Patrick Reed on closing out the WGC-Cadillac - TopicsExpress

Well done to Patrick Reed on closing out the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral this weekend, to secure his 3rd win on the PGA Tour. At just 23 years old, Reed is another of the growing list of young American players who are showing serious form and winning competitions for fun currently. Between Jimmy Walker and Reed, they have notched up a total of 5 wins between them this year alone, not bad for mid-March. Having been 2 ahead going into the last round, the ever confident Reed opened up with 3 birdies in the first 4 holes, just in case anyone thought the nerves would get the better of him! He ended up at -4 which around the newly re-vamped Doral Resort was a worthy winning score. Especially when a staggering 249 balls ended up in the water of the Blue Monster course over the first 3 days alone. Reed is yet to play in a Major, but has now moved into the top 25 in the world, so I guess he can expect to play in all 4 this year, will be interesting to see if the step up changes his approach? As for the best of the rest: Congrats to Jamie Donaldson, another great week for the Welshman. The only real blip was making bogey from a tricky bunker shot on the last, but he must be super confident now for the rest of the season based on yet another great week in the company of the worlds best players. Stephen Gallagher continues his super form this year and moved ever closer to nailing down a berth on the Ryder Cup Team in September; finishing with a superb 69 for 6th place. Who is going to miss out this year if these somewhat outsiders keep taking the spots? Time to step up Mr Westwood, Donald and co, time is running out! It will be interesting to see how Tiger comes back from a very mixed week, just how bad is this latest injury scare with his back? I always remember talking to Butch Harmon at a conference maybe 14 years ago. Butch stated that unless he changes things in almost every department of his game, then there was a distinct chance of Tiger struggling to play much past his late thirties, well I guess this looks like being about right. Although all week he was in obvious pain, he still managed to put together an inspiring 66 on Sat to keep him in the mix! I just don’t think he will be able to put the time in required to stay at the very top over the coming 5-8 years of his career, with what seems to be multiple recurring injuries.
