Well done to the community of Clogher and all those involved in receiving such a prestige award. The Clogher Bridge is credit to the hard work put into it. I understand there is a project underway to provide a picnic area at the Lough beside Wards I don’t know the name of this Lough, the smaller one further on is Fahnia If a persons hands are disfigured by warts, there are wells and lakes throughout Ireland where one may get the cure, if you wash your hands day after day for some time, the warts will disappear. Sometimes the rain-water that collects in the hollows of certain monumental stones, such as crosses, tombs, occasionally rocks of a kind believed to possess this virtue. Two miles west of Macroom in Cork, is a holy well called Tobernawanny, the well of the warts. There is another well in the townland of Derrygarriv, two miles south of Kenmare; another Tobernavaunia, in the parish of Kilcummin in Galway. In Clogher is Fahnia, described as a small pool three miles north-east of the town of Donegal, believed to possess some virtue of this kind, for the name is the English representative of the Irish Loch-na-bhfaithnidhe (Lough Navaunee), the lake of the warts. Not to put a damper on the plans for the picnic area I would be concern at the removal of trees and scrubs in the area just to have them replaced, by yet more tarmac or concrete. This is a natural area for wild life left to developed natural over the years; I feel a greater consideration should be paid to this, in fear that the very thing that makes the place attractive would itself be destroyed. One again, well done to everyone involved in what has become a great community award.
