Well, first things first. we are saddened to hear of the sudden passing of a friend we were going to share a beer with and a meet his family in Pokhara, Nepal, next week. I never met Nick but we shared a few laughs on the Internet. RIP Nick. And so.. after a great Virgin Flight to Mumbai we took a cab to our hotel and over the following 4-5 days trod the streets and visited the sites and eat the local delicacies, loaded with spices. Then caught the train...3 hours delay THEN diverted en-route, but an enjoyable 36 hours (yes, 36) on the train, bed, pillow, blankets and sheets supplied. 1700 km for 23 quid each, With air conditioning. a good way to travel and meet interesting and nice people, none of them westerners, hardly any tourists seen to-date. Following the Train journey so began a 10 hour Jeep and Bus journey on the worst most dangerous roads/vehicles imaginable. Normal Jeep with 9 people on board (cozy) and luggage too! WHY we put our lives in the hands of these people We do not know, but we do, and will continue to do so no doubt. Now in Nepal, Hotel Himal Ganesh in Kathmandu. Great hotel, great people the Nepalese, SO different from India. Hotel is on internet. KTM is so nice and very non-expensive, meals are about a pound or less etc. weather is hot and humid but not a killer. Looking forward to seeing Pokhara, will post some piccies soom take care.
