Well folks… for those who haven’t yet heard, the end is nigh. After a staggering nineteen months of fun in the sun, next month I shall be leaving Tiger and will be making my glorious return to ‘Murica. It’s a mystical place where the beer is cold, the eagles are bald and dangerous criminals like Lindsay Lohan and Justin Bieber roam the streets at night. I’ve still got a few weeks left, so save the tears for now. I’ll be having some kind of goodbye dinner and/or party before I leave. I would tell you when, but I’m not sure how much time it will take me to memorize Bill Pullman’s speech from the end of Independence Day. Many will wonder why I’m leaving now. Nothing has “happened,” I haven’t picked up any “highly transmittable venereal diseases,” and there are no “official murder charges” pending against me… I just think it’s time. I’ve seen a lot of long-termers stay a little too long before leaving and saw how it ultimately soured their views of Thailand, and more specifically, the Soi. I’m leaving a happy guy with a lifetime full of incredible memories. I’m way up at the table and it’s time to walk away with my winnings. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll be ridiculously devastated to leave behind some of the incredible people I’ve met here. This crazy little street has become my home and its inhabitants have become a sometimes-twisted, but always passionate, adoptive little family. Like I said, though... We’ve got a few more weeks of trouble to get into. The countdown has begun, so it’s time to amp things up a bit. I’ll save the real sappy stuff for my six-hour layover in South Korea.
