Well folks we are still at Wolfsons but Ethan is getting stronger and stronger as the days pass. We are waiting on a few more things to get resolved before we can be discharged. The first few days out of the ICU Ethan suffered from severe withdrawals from all the sedation medicine. They started him on Methadone to help with the symptoms and he is feeling some better. Hoping to slowly ween him off this go around and maybe the side effects will be minimal. He is also getting used to his NG tube feeds again. Lots of nausea but the Zofran is working well. Lastly and the largest of his issue is that his right leg is paralyzed from the ankle down. He has some feeling and the nerve pain is severe. They just increased the dosage on his neurontin so hoping the pain will be under control soon. The MRI was clear and they are not sure what the cause is. Next step would be a nerve conduction test but speaking from experience those are not comfortable and Ethan wouldnt be able to tolerate the pain. We are hoping that at some point in time it resolves itself but if not we will explore our options at a later date. We are waiting on PT to help us determine the best way to get him mobile again. He can put weight on the foot but has no control over it. The pain he feels in the foot limits his stamina as far as PT goes. Poor guy says if he has to feel pain in it he should be able to move it!! We are looking at a Friday discharge if all the stars align :) On a positive note......We have HAIR!!!! It has started to grow back and is pretty thick this time so I think it might hang around. Much to Ethans disappointment it is not dark brown or black. Instead it is light blonde and baby fine. Beggars cant be choosers I suppose. We are keeping busy watching movies and even working on a little homework. Not sure when he will be heading back to school but we are trying to not get to far behind. Hopefully the next time I update I will be doing so from the comfort of my own home!! Keeping our fingers crossed!!
