Well, for the first time in nine years, Im NOT going to San Diego Comic-Con. It feels a little strange, like theres this big party Im not invited to because Im somebodys ex, and I lost that set of friends in the breakup, and yet, I know pretty much everyone who is going to be there and dread how Im going to feel not a part of when you come back and talk about how much fun it was, or when I see all your cool pics on Facebook. On the other hand, Ive been so spoiled by the treatment I got in the past, especially when I was there representing Futurama (and yes, it was all youd imagine it would be, with limos, all-access passes, personal security, A-list parties... hate me yet?) that I dont know that Id want to do SDCC any other way. Am I a big spoiled brat? You bet I am. Guilty as charged. That said, could I even get tickets and a hotel room, if, hypothetically, I decided to rough it? (Remembering, of course, that for me, roughing it is staying at The Hyatt, because, after all, its not the Marriott, and therefore, not directly connected by a tunnel to the Convention Center) Probably not. So, I guess Im just gonna have to have a peaceful weekend here by my pool, and wish you Comic-Conners an incredible time! Perhaps Ill be on a show with a Comic-Con presence this time next year. If so, Ill see you then! Ya never know. Hey, I may die between now and then. Could happen. We hope not, but it could. Hey, its the randomness of life, my friends, that makes it so very precious. Thats why we must grab hold of every day! Grab hold of it like its that girl from junior high school you had a crush on, and play-wrestle it to the ground at recess time and tickle it until it wets its pants and decides its never ever speaking to you for the rest of your life, even at your 20 Year High School Reunion. (Did I take the metaphor too far again? Dammit!) Anyway, Happy Comic-Con, my friends. Dont forget the deodorant, floss, and breath mints.
