Well for those who do not already know after credit for 41 years and 5 months of federal service, a whole lot of encouragement from a whole lot of folks and some unexpected life events I have officially retired from the FDA. I will be turning in my badge and wont see it again until it is decharacterized mounted on a wall plaque or in a lucite desk award plaque. My actual date was 9/30/14. When I landed that night after returning from D.C. I had performed my last official act. Some people retire to travel. I will be traveling less and more exclusively for me. On the very next day I jumped in my car and headed to El Paso for the Parkland Reunion. The very best one ever I might add though as a Reunion Committee member I may be a bit biased;-) I am still here visiting other family and friends. The beauty of being retired. I had not formally announced my retirement before as I had not told my boss :-) I cleared everything through headquarters. My boss had ten employees when she arrived just over 18 months ago. She is down to two and one is close to existing if she can. The others left by simply quitting, transferring, retiring (me) or taking other positions which took them out of her chain of command. One employee who reports to a different Supervisor wants to transfer just to get away from what she calls a toxic office environment and another now works the maximum number of days possible away from the office so they do not have to watch how their fellow employees are treated daily. That should tell you everything about why I did what I did not telling them locally. I expected and was not disappointed to get usual nasty emails from her but it took longer as she was out on leave. So I had to hold off on my announcement. Responding to the threats and nastiness everything was in place for a final communication closing that Chapter of my life. I proudly professed I was free and sent the first picture you see in response to her threats and demands to immediately verify my whereabouts ...LOL Did I enjoy the moment HELL YES !!!! The second picture will be sent in response to another threatening email she sent...:-) :-) One of the attorneys I work with asked but dont you want to celebrate. I told her I was the last employee in the Tucson office so I would need a mirror to celebrate ....LOL I did a whole lot of celebrating with my high school friends and family at our Reunion. Your the best !!!! For my FDA and HHS Facebook friends still working, dont panic I will still be the Union Chapter President doing representation work.
