Well friends like it or not we have a brand new year approaching AGAIN. I must say that my life seems to get better each and every year. Watching the changes of life in the grandchildren and the constant change of the status of friends and associates certainly make life interesting. I would like to share some ideas about change that you might find helpful for the upcoming 2015. I must say that our days are like kaleidoscopes. Every instant a change takes place..... New harmonies, new contrasts, new combinations of every sort...... The most familiar people stand each moment in some new relation to each other, to their work, to surrounding objects. Life belongs to the living, and he who lives must be prepared for changes. Changes can occur in a fraction of a second. One minute there is stability and the next chaos. Millions of people find their lives changed in this way. Today I discovered that another flight from Malaysia was lost at sea. 162 lives were lost in a matter of seconds. Just think of all the lives that will be effected by this tragedy. None of us knows what the next change is going to be, what unexpected opportunity is just around the corner, waiting to change all the tenor of our lives. The sad thing about our mentality is that we look at change as mainly negative. We have the human drive that takes us to the Worst First. Back in the 80s I was told that I was being fired from my coaching position. I immediately took the situation as an assault on my life. I was completely shocked and my self worth hit the floor. I was being told that I wasnt good enough to continue my employment and that I was no longer wanted. It caused some very deep rooted feelings to take hold of me and I literally thought that I was finished. I began to draw upon my inter- strength reaching deep into the bucket. It became obvious that YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT AS IT HAPPENS, BUT YOU SHOULD TRY TO MAKE IT HAPPEN THE WAY YOU WANT TO TAKE IT. I realized that the happy and efficient people in this world are those who accept trouble as a normal detail of human life and resolve to capitalize on it when it comes along. You see I spent hours of my life blaming other people for my troubles and my misgivings. I began to realize that there are two ways of meeting difficulties; you alter the difficulties, or you ALTER YOURSELF TO MEET THEM. The art of life lies in a constant readjustment to our surroundings. The loss of my coaching job could have been a life long downer for me had I continued to seek those that were at fault. What it become was a redirection of my thinking and the desire to become my own boss. You see at that moment in time I decided that I would NEVER WORK FOR ANOTHER COMPANY OR PERSON. I became the BEST BOSS THAT I HAVE EVER WORKED FOR. I began to look at different opportunities of serving the public with something that was wanted EVERYDAY. You see I got past the negatives and began to work on the positives. I began to ARRANGE THE PIECES THAT WERE COMING MY WAY.,... I could have remained in the coaching field and would have probably suffered again and again. The old saying that We must like what we have when dont have what we like wasnt cutting it for me. Results are what you EXPECT, consequences are what you GET. My advice to you is to find what you love to do and began researching how to do it for a living. I had a person to ask me last night if I had retired . I looked at him and said that I retired when I started my business. At that point in time I QUIT WORKING. Retiring to me would be like leaving my comfortable home to go walk in the woods somewhere. I love my home and would never want to leave it. I thank God every day for the wonderful changes in my life. I would love to change my golf game somewhat but I realize that I cant be good at everything. I enjoy watching my championship wife play and will continue to support her and to gain strength from her successes. I again ask you to do away with the self-pity. Self-pity is a death that has no resurrection, a sinkhole from which no rescuing hand can drag you from because YOU have CHOSEN to sink. Happy New Year and lets start it with with a bang.
