Well, gente, you all know me well enough to know that I get tired of stereotypes and I get tired of the mainstream media determining ideas.... Here is one image I am tired of seeing, for many reasons. 1. The book 12 Years a Slave is not done much justice by the movie. Respect to Simon Northrup, whose true life story it is. And respect to the 1000s like him who were kidnapped as he was. 2. The movie is so full of stereotypes that I could hardly watch it. 3. The script is poorly written and made predictable due to the sterotypes. 4. The violence is filmed in a voyueristic manner. When I have expressed this to people, there are folk who tell me I am too critical, etc. However, I just found this article, which indicates that the problems I see in this film probably came from the difficulties in writing and directing it..... SMH....of course, the main problem is the Hollywood context. I suppose the writer and director did the best they could given who was paying for the production and distribution of it....
