Well good people you still have time to ta out life Insurance on me. I can see the line around the block with my buddy Poncho at the head of the line.In about thirty paragraphs I will tie this in. I 1965 had a buddy that was an W-4 in Ft. Binning Ga. His name was Bud something or the other, but I named him poncho as he was Mexican . He loved it. Now Poncho had a used car lot in the better part of town. You know the part, where the Columbus cops wouldnt go after dark. The Manger was an Staff Sgt. called Doc White. Now Doc had a salesman to take up the slack when he was running his Standard oil station. This was Bob Martin. At the lot we called him Bob or Robert. During the day he was called LTC. Robert R. Martin ,the Bn. Commander of the 32nd Little John Rocket Bn. Nuclear. He also was a good friend off duty, and the Co. during duty. One thing I always had to jack him up when he was to happy was to ask, how is your new Color TV His wife June had been trying to get Bob to get a new Color TV, and he would put her off. You see Bob was color blind and was only on active duty with a yearly waver for vision. Anyway I invited him and his wife over for drinks. Bob had told her that Color TV really sucked and she didnt need it. Needless to say June never stopped giving him hell till he agreed that night to get one. It seems that I forgot to tell Bob that I had a color TV. I have been known to do things like that. Okay, okay, some nights I cant think of something to say and some nights I cant shut up. Poncho was the HMFIC of the Meteorology section. Metro as we called it was necessary before any of our rockets could be fired into the wild blue yonder. As you can guess we didnt fire off a rocket very often. In fact a rocket was only fired twice a year. In fact there were more people from The Atomic Energy Commission than it took to fire the thing. If we had a live war head they would tilt the earth. Because Poncho had lots of spare time, had hobbies Like used car lots and collecting on life Insurance when a person died in Vietnam. Poncho had a buddy in post personnel transfer section and he would Let Poncho know when Orders were going to be cut in our Bn. for Vietnam. You could buy Life insurance on a person up till they received the orders. Poncho would beat feet to the person and tell them that orders were coming down soon for Nam and would they care if he bought a policy with him the beneficiary. You would be surprised how many people gave him permission. I did and four and a half years later he told me I had cost him a bundle. If he is alive he would be welcome to try again. I loved that man. lol So... GOOD NIGHT MRS. CALABASH WHERE EVER YOU ARE.
