Well here I go again: LOL The Fort Erie Municipal Election is officially on its way. Whoever comes out the victor will face many challenges in 2015 and beyond. This whole town is entrenched in a power struggle that used to be in the shadows but it is front and centre now. What will we learn from it? Do we continue to elect people to keep fighting for an ideal so obtuse that only extreme polar opposites gravitate towards OR Do we find common ground and reach across the aisle and shake hands to move again in one direction??? What is Greater Fort Eries immediate future? A retirement community with no full service hospital in town? A manufacturing town that is now in the rust belt of Ontario? A tourist town with little marketing prowess set aside? A waterfront community that redefines access in certain parts of town controlled by the summer resident? A municipality struggling with school closures in abandoned neighbourhoods, while trying to find new school sites and the DSBN dictates authority through their local ARC committee representatives? A municipal election ward system that elects a possible grass roots movement or an at large system that may eliminate those that cannot raise enough campaign funds to compete on the same playing field? Those are some of the issues we will all be facing after this election. I have been adamant lately, that the weekly bickering on council has spread into the fabric of this little town and in order to rid of the divisions, a NEW START is in YOUR HANDS! Will you VOTE for a peaceful and progressive FUTURE or continue in the same path of tempers flaring amongst a very cordial and welcoming community of communities?
