Well, here is a part of the principal of Cascade Junior Highs - TopicsExpress

Well, here is a part of the principal of Cascade Junior Highs response: As far as the hall pass is concerned, they have been a part of Cascade Junior High culture for years. They are not new and have remained unchanged from before I came to the building 4 years ago. One of the things we hope to teach junior high students is the need to manage their resources, and in this case, their time. We have determined that the hall pass system is a way for us to help kids make value judgments about what they should use them on, and what isnt as important to them. We encourage them to use their 5 minute passing times as much as possible. The distances they have to travel can include a stop at a locker, a bathroom break and movement to their next class. (with the exception of wood shop and band) Certainly, if students are desperate to go to the bathroom, we often will allow them to go even if they dont have hall passes left, without giving a citation Please note if students are desperate we often will allow them to go....seriously???? This is part of my response: Just because something has been part of a culture for years does not make it right. Slavery was also part of culture until people became aware and humane. Citing kids for using the bathroom is not teaching them to use resources wisely, it teaches them that they should keep their hydration down, that they should risk bladder infections, that those who have IBS should suffer. I understand your stance and I will be looking into the legality of this system.
