Better be quick as it may get deleted as clearly the owner of this group only likes their own views..... Hello all, let me introduce myself my name is Jeremy Fine and I have been in the estate agency business for 20 years. I own with my 2 partners Godfrey and Barr with offices in Hampstead Garden Suburb and Mill Hill. I have watched with interest lots of post on here. Absolutely I agree that a private sale is good and we all like to save money wherever possible and live in a world of cost cutting. However one thing everybody is missing is that selling your biggest asset in life is easy, are you getting the best price though ? Anybody can agree a price on a property , thats great but you may cost yourself anything from £5,000 to £100,0000 or even more by trying to saving yourself on agency fees. By showing your property to a limited number of buyers you may actually be missing out and costing yourself. Further once you agree a sale do you know about your buyers financials , finance , lawyer , chain ? The buyers lawyers wont talk to you and you have no middle man to negotiate issues for you , survey , mortgage , valuation compatibles making sure the sale price stacks up. Of course you may expect me to say all of this as its my business and what I do so naturally dont like private sales . However I talk from experience and spend my life helping people buy , sell , rent etc . This is not a plug for my company I wish you all the best of luck with any private sales I just know that whichever agent you may use will be worth every penny and hopefully you will be delighted if you go down that road and let the agents do what they are good at !! We have just agreed a sale for somebody on this group who will remain nameless but they were trying to sell privately and we ended up getting a price way in excess of anything they could have imagined. The fees were irrelevant compared to the gain they have achieved. There was a post about lawyers and exactly the same goes. Chose a cheap lawyer and your sale / purchase will be a nightmare .This for most people will be the biggest transaction of your life and a cheap on line lawyer may miss a tiny detail on a lease or title that could leave you in ruins. Well thats it for now , i genuinely wish you the best of luck if you sell or rent from here , this is just my take on it .
