Well here we are in Chicago. It is pouring. Last time we were here it was snowing. But we dont care. Weve had an awesome first 2 days of the trip -- amazing sets by John Fullbright and Sean Rowe on the train last night, an epic exploration of seemingly every escalator at Penn Station, a boat ride in which, shockingly, nothing went wrong!!! Perhaps the nautical curse of Roots On The Rails has been lifted! We picked up Fred at 1:30 am in Buffalo where he was singing Rocky Top on the platform with a bunch of Hutterites, and were a wee bit late into Chicago (No Jordan, there is not another Express Train -- we are ON the Express Train!) Tonight we head over to City Winery to see our pals Butch Hancock and Jimmie Dale Gilmore who join us on the train tomorrow as we trundle off on the Empire Builder into fracking country. Our friends at LARail are taking great care of us, the cars are beautiful, and when we leave Chicago tomorrow they will be in a completely different order, so everyone will be utterly confused. So much fun, its just ridiculous.
