Well here we go again people, slowly getting down to the business - TopicsExpress

Well here we go again people, slowly getting down to the business end of the season with just 3 weekends to go before the semi finals. This weekend both teams played home games at the local rec. The games produced their fair share of drama and thrills and spills. Our teams stood "shoulder to shoulder" and produced two pretty good results with the Seniors taking out a good win against Marist Celtic 18-13 and our Premieres bringing home a 16 all daw against Marist Premieres. Our Seniors game started off well against Celtic. The depth within the team really shows as we had 4 players out from last week’s line up which meant a new forward pack and yet we still delivered. Cam White, Shihan Smallman and Kiel Martin did well in the scrums dominating over the opposition; Shihan has had an excellent season improving from week to week and he did some good work as Prop playing a full 80 minute game. Kiel Martin went well and made consistent tackling hits throughout the game. Mike Loye had another strong game at Lock and is doing the business in the lineouts. BJ Bowsher filled in at open side for Brett and led the boys well around the field. It was great to welcome Simeon Nepe aka "The Siminator" back into the team and he had a strong game starting at number 8. There was a good display of teamwork by Captain Ted and his boys with Josh Simon, Wade Teepa, Wiremu Lawrence, and Mr consistent Jay Rewai being standouts. Our Big man "Cyrus Tasi" took full advantage of the ball being fed out to him and was able to break the line a number of times throughout the game. It was good to see Richie Troon get stuck in to the game and at one stage make up for an earlier mistake with style. PT Hay Horton and Mitchell Overton both had pearlers with Mitchell scoring the first try after outrunning two of the opposition, taking advantage of a great little kick by Josh Wardel. PT Hay Horton scored our second try with only 3 minutes left which tied us to 13 all. In fantastic fashion a 70 meter last minute break led by Cyrus Tasi culminated in an 80th minute try by hardworking man Josh Simon. To all the rest of the team keep it up boys, you have found your rhythm so keep beating those drums and the tribe will be there to support you all! Kia kaha for next week! Thanks to Womble who refereed another fair and consistent game and also another big pat on the back to the seniors coaching crew of Clint and Lance, you guys motivate and inspire your team every week and the results have been great! To our Premieres, Kia kaha! You produced a good result in the end boys even though with a little bit more effort we could have certainly secured the win. In some ways the flow of this game harked back to games that we saw this team play very early in the season. First half out the boys were on fire with strong confident attacking play that saw us really take on the opposition and put points on the board. Rimu Wipaki went across the line and scored our first try. Matiu Teepa played another consistent game and “Hard man” Marcus Totman tackled well, gaining the turnovers in the ruck and playing good rugby. Unfortunately the next part of the first half saw us play some pretty mediocre lack lustre rugby where it seemed like we were just going through the motions. The first half score line of 8 all, could have seen a very different result had the kicking from both teams been a tad more accurate. Coach Kerry gave the boys a massive rev up at half time which saw an improvement in the second half play. The boys seemed to wake up, re-focus their thinking and get back into the game. Our lineouts went well and Frazer Bryant played another strong consistent game. Marcus Totman continued on with his play from the first half and was all over the field never giving up. Our backs went well and Tom Wells did a good job of leading the backline. Our forwards were ok but could have been a lot more effective if they played together as a team and backed each other up instead of leaving it to individuals to take the ball up! Richie Iorns, Slade Hay Horton, Timi Teepa and Richard Batley all played some hard hitting rugby and Captain Tremaine Gilbert also went well and had a strong game playing out of position in number 8. In the last 15 minutes or so of the second half discipline broke down in a big way for the team with a number of our boys losing their cool resulting in sin-bins for both teams. Sometimes it takes a lot to walk away when provoked but the consequences of the actions that were taken on Saturday has had a detrimental effect going forward with two of our boys being stood down for the next two weeks. Our top try scorer Jaye Flaws tried his hardest this week to add points to his tally however with limited ball going his way this was always going to be a struggle. Matt Totman got the second try for the team and Luke Whale secured 2 penalties. Good stuff boys! Going forward to this week’s game, both teams will need to take a step up to show the Ruapehu team what we are capable of. Having the confidence and believe in oneself as a sportsman is something that is nurtured and build upon and requires inner strength, natural talent can get you so far but hard work, determination and perseverance will always produce results. Those are the types of attributes and qualities that we look for in players, club members and supporters alike for this club. When we stand “shoulder to shoulder” and display those things as a club that is something to be proud of. When we forget these things and become unruly, disruptive and disorderly as supporters, team players and club members this leads to chaos. Let’s keep it real going forward people, passion is a great thing but it can also have a downside if passion turns ugly where credibility and reputations can be lost or tarnished. Lastly, our condolences to the Whale and Hunter whanau both staunch Huia families for the recent losses of their young men, on a brighter note welcome to the world baby girl "Ashaya Tasi" if youre anything like your daddy you will be a force to be reckoned with in any sport you choose to play! Congrats Cyrus and mummy! Have a good week people, take care of each other, help someone less fortunate then yourself and keep warm! Ka kite till next week
