Well heres a story for you….Todds birthday is today…Tried to make this day special…Already took him out and got new shoes and a new cap…Fun day yesterday at Tanglewood playing music. Got up this morning and got his favorite gravy biscuit from McDonalds (I know what youre thinking…McDonalds??? Really????). Picked up steaks and the works for dinner tonight in preparation for grilling out. Then I made the ultimate sacrifice….I suggested that we take the paddle boat out on the pond and he could fish. Please note that I have not made many voyages on the paddle boat this summer due to a chronic back issue. Since I was spending a small fortune on acupuncture and the chiropractor, I have refrained until today….but the Birthday Boy was worth the sacrifice so off we trekked to the pond. I had my clipboard full of crossword puzzles and Todd was geared up to catch a whale. We paddle out to the center of the pond and settle in for a restful and scenic time…a time to relax…make idle conversation…catch a fish or two…and then it happened… I am trying to figure out the six letter clue for Perseus foe, when WHACK!!!!!!! AND I DO MEAN WHACK!!!!! RIGHT ACROSS THE TOP OF MY HEAD!!!! The kind of whack when you lose your balance, see stars, knock your flip flop off WHACK! A close to losing consciousness WHACK! Yep….my dear husband, lost control of a cast and coldcocked me right on the head. Now please note, my friends, that Todd is totally convinced that the ONLY reason he remained in the boat and is still alive as we speak, is because he hit me so hard, that it stunned me senseless and I couldnt respond. I will tell you dear friends, that he is absolutely correct! By the time, I regained some sort of consciousness and realized what had just happened, there was nothing to do but rub my head and wish that I had brought some Tylenol…or an ice pack. Needless to say, the trip went downhill after that. Todd caught nothing, but as we paddled to shore, there was a 10 inch bass following the boat sticking his tongue out at us. We have now moved on to the dinner phase of the evening. If you ride down Mebane Oaks RD and see me sitting on the deck in a football helmet, do not be alarmed. Im just being proactive. PS….Perseus foe was Medusa. Todd was kind enough to give me the answer. Shoot! As many times as he has watched The Clash of the Titans, he should know it!
