Well, home after a VERY long day and a VERY long drive. We have cookie back with us again. I am happy to say Cookie is NOT going blind nor was so fat she could hardly walk like initially reported to us. Cookie greeted me just like she had never been away from me, certainly not 4 years! On a side note, Kent county animal control in Michigan has to be one of the BEST animal controls I have ever been at. The staff was so nice and accommodating . They stayed open through lunch even though rules clearly stated no one was to be in the building at that time. The wonderful woman that helped us was so pleasant a far cry from the local animal control here. She took me back into the kennel to get cookie and I was socked just how clean it was. no urine or feces in any cages, and the dogs wow!! I have never ever been to an animal control that was so quiet. no barking nothing. cookie didnt even bark. It was like none of the dogs were at all stressed like the other acs I have been in. The director from kent county actually CARES about the animals. wow astounding to me. certainly the local one here could give two shits less. They do not have a humane society and manage to still be able to not only get the dogs in rescue but they microchip ALL dogs and people can not change the address from Kent co ac. That way they are assured to get the dogs back should something happen.. Now how many acs actually want the dogs back and CARE for the welfare of the animal? Not many. The animal control makes sure all dogs are up to date on vaccines before leaving the building. The vet also worked through lunch for us. They made calls to try to get information on previous vet care, she did not ant to have to charge us. she went the extra mile. She was shocked that we would drive that far as a rescue to get our dog and the very next day at that. She thanked us over and over for doing what we do and caring so much for the animals. honestly IF I was a dog and had to be somewhere that would be the place. again a sure cry from the treatment you get here from the staff and director. And hell, they do not even need a humane society to get these wonderful pets into homes. Thank you Kimberly LeMiesz for going with me to get cookie and for the use of your car and the wonderful company on the ride!! You do certainly made for a fun trip! To day has been an amazing day despite the situation. Kent ac made what could be a negative experience a very positive one!! We can not thank you enough for all you did!!
