Well, if you had asked me how I felt about this yesterday...you - TopicsExpress

Well, if you had asked me how I felt about this yesterday...you would have gotten a different response than I would give you today. I witnessed something firsthand, that I never thought I would. Bear with me while I tell you my experience. I was working today, being pool monitor for the association where I reside, in Key Largo, FL. Our pool is oceanside, and we have a pretty good view of the ocean. I think not a whole lot of seeing people in kayaks along the shoreline, but today was different. As a few people gathered along the shore, apparently to help people in distress. Residents of ours greeted them with towels and fresh water. I was asked to call the police, by people in the clubhouse, for this is something they have seen before. This was before the distressed actually made land. As I watched this unfold (police had been called, and were on their way), and a larger crowd gathered...11 Cuban young men made landfall, and as they hit the ground...they cried, they cheered, they kissed the ground, they had reached freedom. Yes, of course, US Border Patrol came along to keep the situation under control. As they gathered just at the end of our pier...they looked so relieved. Even with the language barrier, they were gracious. They made it...Wet Foot/Dry Foot. They are here to stay. Once you make land, we cannot send you back. And, before you go blaming our president, just a reminder...Jimmy Carter set this in motion years ago. Yes, you ask me this...Who will pay for this? We will. Then again, they will be willing to work the jobs that most Americans feel are beneath them. They have managed to escape a government that is unbearable, and what it has cost them is 5 days on the ocean from Cuba with no food or water....they took the risk. After all...how did our ancestors get here? Oh yeah...they had a sponsor. We have taken away that right to immigrants that would love to become part of this country/freedom. These 11 men left Cuba on Monday and hit land in Key Largo at approximately 12:45 eastern time. The advice they were given from our association president today was this, as they drove away with Border Patrol...Dont waste this opportunity that you have been given, just the fact that you made it here alive is a blessing. Make a productive life for yourself here, and never, ever fall into a life of crime. These men left their families behind...looking for a dream & a little bit of hope....these are not terrorists, just people with hope for a better life. youtube/watch?v=9ttDUGM-1mU
