Well it appears as LOVE is in the air and God is in control as always. The wedding of Martha Sullivan Smith and Adam Robinson in just a few days and I am super excited and happy for my lifelong friend! You must first choose the one you love then love the one you choose! Just like the first man Adam, you must accept your mate as Gods provision for you. When you do that, you will show the world your faith in God and trust in His love for you. Adams attention was on Gods perfect nature, not Eves performance as a person or a wife. He knew God and knew that He could be trusted. Adam accepted her because he knew she was from God and a part of himself because God had taken from his rib. Not to mention, she was probably the most gorgeous thing he had ever laid his eyes on. To date, he had only saw God’s wonderful creation and the animals, naming each of them. But now, he had a new challenge, one that we all face when we decide to get married. His faith in God allowed him to welcome Eve as Gods complete blessing for him. For those of you considering marriage or even if you already are, accept ALL the flaws, because there WILL be some. Accept ALL the issues, they WILL come too. But, through it all, love your choice! When a couple get their relationships with God straightened out, their relationships with one another begin to straighten out as well. C. S. Lewis once wrote, “When I have learnt to love God better than my earthly dearest, I shall love my earthly dearest better than I do now.” Keep God in the equation of your marriage and your family and you can NEVER go wrong! Staying married is not mainly about staying in love. It is about keeping covenant. “Till death do us part” or “As long as we both shall live” is a sacred covenant promise, which is the same kind Jesus made with His bride (The Church, Us) when He died for her. When the “I DO’S” are all said and done, two imperfect people get married and it become a promise that makes the marriage between not only you and your spouse but to God as well. If they are bone of our bone and flesh of our flesh, would you hurt yourself or cause yourself any harm or heartache? No you would not! We do all we can to keep our bodies healthy, by diet and exercise so why not do the same for our marriages? It does take work to keep them healthy and thriving, they just don’t happen because they are supposed to. Marriages are made in Heaven, but they sure take a lot of maintenance on earth! The secret to having a good marriage is to understand that marriage must be total, it must be permanent, and it must be equal. We need to be willing to work at it, and we need the wisdom of God, and to understand the relationships. Psalm 34:12-14 is a scripture that sums up in a nutshell what it takes to have fulfilling relationships and a good marriage. It says, Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. There are three powerful truths in this verse that when applied to our relationships, will greatly help in the success of a happy marriage. They are: 1. Control your tongue. 2. Do good to each other. 3. Seek peace and pursue it. God bless you all!
