Well it is that time of week, the Barbara Banks Spagnuolo update: - TopicsExpress

Well it is that time of week, the Barbara Banks Spagnuolo update: As what has now become the norm at Craig Hospital, Barbara continues to impress all her therapist and I and inspire the other patients with her attitude and commitment to recovery. She has been working on walking with a walker all this week and surprised everyone today by walking a few steps without any aid or assistance. This is way ahead of schedule. Additionally, she has been cleared to eat solid foods and they turned her feeding tube off. In a week or so, if she continues with the caloric intake, they will remove the feeding tube. She is still dealing with some medical issues that are private and her strength and endurance is lacking, but she is doing things she should not medically be able to do yet according to her team of specialist, which is amazing. To recap: 1. They said she would not make it through a 24 hours period and would die - WRONG 2. They said she would be paralyzed from the waist down - WRONG 3. They said she would take weeks to speak - WRONG 4. They said her vision may not return to normal - WRONG 5. They said I would probably be taking her home wheelchair bound - WRONG Temper all this with the fact that she is still recovering and this will take months to a year or more for full recovery, but she is way ahead of the game. As of right now, she will still need a wheelchair due to endurance issues, but she is walking in a walker without assistance, taking steps, even made it up a few stairs, eating solids, and her vision is getting better and now predicted to fully recover, and her speaking is clearer everyday and very close to normal. We are estimating her return to home on Nov. 15 with plenty of out-patient therapy ahead of her.
