Well it looks like old Rocket Man is starting to go down fast. Hes been a great dog and has lived several years past his life expectancy. He was born here on our property and grew up to be the MAN. Hes over 14 years old now and I dont think he will make it to the weekend. I will dig his grave tomorrow knowing its coming soon! I dont handle losing a dog well at all. Especially one that has been as special as Rocket. He has faithfully protected our home and property for many years. He has tracked deer for us and others, wrangled wild hogs and herded goats from pastures with a No Bite command where he would take them down and hold them until we could get a rope on them and never draw a drop of blood. But when something needed killing.....it only took him seconds to make that happen. He had 3 modes concerning people: 1) He loved you like you belonged to him. 2) He liked you and you were allowed to come on to the property. 3) He Did Not Like or Trust you and you were not allowed to come onto the property unless he was locked away and could not get to you. If you challenged him....then you just made a BIG mistake! I remember when he spotted something behind our house that he didnt like....it was on the other side of a 4.5 foot fence. He ran from the front yard some 150 to the back fence and sailed over it like it wasnt there. He then ran down the intruding coyote and killed him in about 2 Milli-seconds. I also remember the time when Paula took him for a walk on his leash. Two BIG dogs came charging toward her out of no where barking and snarling and before they could get to her he yanked the leash from her hands and fought both dogs off making short work of the fight before they both went running away back to where they came from ..tails tucked tightly between their legs! But most of all I remember all the LOVE he had for all of us and the many many friends and family he loved so much! This is gonna be a very difficult few days for all of us as he heads toward to Rainbow Bridge! :(
