Well, it looks like the Great Sap Run of 2014 is pretty much over. As iffy as its been in terms of flow and sap density we had our second best syrup year ever, only exceeded by last years. Well have made somewhere between 600 and 700 gallons of syrup when all is said and done. Were taking a day off before we cook for the last time tomorrow. On another note, I fiddled around with my camera and got it to kind of work again... for the time being. I added some electrical tape and subtracted the new shutter button, opting once again for the paper clip as my shutter button. I have to wiggle and tap it to get it to take a picture, so action shots are definitely out of the question but I can capture the occasional still shot. Jennifer and I are gonna head into the booming metropolis of Menomonie together to do some grocery shopping and pick up a carload of 2 quart canning jars. Ill be putting syrup in those jars this week for a commerce trip into the really booming Twin Cities metro late this week; there are some very excited syrup aficionados (first-time buyers and perennial customers) awaiting the sweet sweet elixir that comes from the trees and my labor of love. Spring planting is just around the corner. The rhubarb is popping up and buds are just starting to swell on the fruit trees. There are so many smells, sights, sounds pulling me in a million directions, even in the hazy, sleep-deprived state I currently find myself. Life is incredible, amazing, perturbing, impossible, love-inspiring and very difficult to live without.
