Well its getting down to the wire!! My sons are going with me to Albuquerque! I was remembering when Winona Marsden was 8 years old. She received her Indian name, she was in the 2nd grade. When she returned to school, she was so proud of her new Indian name, that she wrote SMOOLT, on all of her school work that had to be turned in. Her teacher called me in to the class room for a meeting. I kept wondering to myself, oh gads!! I wonder what that girl did now!! When I got there the teacher told me that Winona was a very bright young girl, everyone in the class room liked her. But she had one thing that she wanted to ask me. She pulled out some school work and showed it to me. She asked me, Is this Winona? I looked at the paper and up in the corner on the line that said NAME____________. Instead of writing Winona, she wrote her new Indian Name instead! So on all of her school work for that week it had her Indian name, SMOOLT on it instead of Winona!!! I was relieved, she wasnt in trouble!! hahahahahaha
