Well, its midnight, November 9th, in Okinawa, Japan, and I want to be the first to scream 7, 400 miles away, across alllllllll of the oceans and the seas, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! to THE MOST phenomenal women in the world: MY MOMMY!!! Mama, without you, there would be no me: you gave me life, and I thank you for that. Without you, too, I would not be where I am in this life. Your love and teachings--so many, but 3 that I will always hold close to my heart, the 3 that have made me who I am today, the 3 that I will instill in the hearts of my children: 1. Depend on and learn how to financially support yourself, so that you are never dependent upon another. 2. Education is powerful. It will take you many places, and no one can ever take it from you. 3. DREAM. You can do ANYTHING that you put your mind to.--are what guide me and motivate me through every rough day, days that I feel as though Im not strong enough, smart enough, young enough, rich enough, white enough, black enough. When I feel discouraged, all I need to hear is, Maria Janise, you CAN do this!!! Everything else disappears, all other opinions are obsolete, and I believe that I CAN.
