Well, its official! There have been some fairly credible rumors about it, but I can finally confirm --- Im an old guy! Im sitting here with my fuzzy slippers, my layers of clothing [heck, its 52 degrees! Thats arctic for Florida] and my reading glasses. Im trying to keep two cats from taking over my keyboard completely as I type this and Im listening to a three-CD set of instrumentals. Now, I literally have a huge collection of real hipster instrumental music --- most of the top jazz cats, including everything from hot-jazz, cool jazz, bebop, neo-bop, avant-garde jazz, jazz-fusion, swing, etc. I own instrumental recordings of most of the blues masters, some great classical players, Western Swing giants, many great harmonica players from all idioms. I have recordings from some modern world music maestros, including acoustic and electric instrumentalists. Im not listening to any of that stuff, though. Im listening to a three-CD set titled Unforgettable Instrumental Hits. Its really quite good, but if I would have seen myself listening to this collection and pouring over the liner notes lets say, when I was twenty or thirty years of age, I would have been merciless in my sarcasm...I AM officially an old fogey now!
