Well its that time of the year again. I just wanted to write a little blurp about cancellation insurance. PLEASE make sure you have cancellation insurance for any kind of trip you book. Whether it is airline tickets or a vacations package. Almost everything to do with travel that you book is 100% non refundable. If there are cancellation policies built into tickets please look into them before you think you are fully covered. To be completely honest the only one that I find that works 90% of the time is West Jet and West Jet Vacations Packages. Air Canada does have a cancellation policy built into their tickets but you have to watch because when they say you have a year to use it. It is from the date you booked your original ticket and your new itinerary has to be used before that 1 year is up. We just ran into this situation yesterday. A lady had an Air Canada ticket that she booked Nov 22/12 for travel Dec 2012. She cancelled the ticket. Then she just came in yesterday to rebook her new itinerary. She wanted something for March 2014. The ticket is only valid for 1 year so she had to rebook and use her new ticket within a year of her original purchase date so Nov 22/13. She lost the credit and 100% of her money. With vacation packages it is even more strict. If you have to cancel it is 100% non refundable. Some charter companies have a cancellation waiver you can buy. I will warn you about this insurance. I am not sure how they can even advertise it. This waiver you have to buy the day you book your trip. It is usually $50.00 per person. WOW so cheap right? WRONG.... There are stipulations to this. The couple times I tried to use it for a couple clients I have had no luck. First, depending on the time you cancel (how close it is to departure) they will reimburse you with credits with the supplier (only good for 1 year) or part cash. The closer to departure the more you get back in credits. Also there is an additional $200.00 fee they charge when you have to cancel. So instead of costing you $50.00 per person that just went up to $250.00 PER PERSON! So when I quote you insurance (or your insurance provider). Please do not tell me you can get something else that covers you for $50.00. Because with the insurance I quote you. If you cancel for a reason outlined in their policy you will get your money back fully. We have had 2 situations in the last day that if the people would of purchased cancellation insurance it would have been fine. But since they didnt they are out a couple thousand dollars. PLEASE ask me if you have any questions or concerns
