Well it’s been a funny old day. I have to say that this hotel is wonderful. They’ve spoiled us rotten, too! Breakfast this morning had us offered Catalan Tortilla, which were eagerly accepted. Then came the question: “Would you like a little wine with that?” Wine. For breakfast? NO!!!!!!!! (Thank you all the same). After this we hit the road. First call was the Circuit de Barcelona-Cataluña, which really is in the suburbs of Barcelona. Unlike Spa some years back we couldn’t just wander in an watch what was going on. There seemed to be some sort of track day, with long queues, so I took some photos and we moved on to Barcelona itself. I didn’t like it and we’ll leave it at that. The day was saved by a visit to the monastery of Santa María de Montserrat, at 4,055 feet up the mountain and 30 miles west of Barcelona. Stunning views, if something of a hairy drive up there. It also confirmed my utterly irrational fear of heights that developed climbing Peña Rocha a few years back. This is our last night in Cataluña, and I shall be sorry to leave. We have been made very welcome and met a host of extremely pleasant people. But tomorrow it’s off to Aumont Aubrac, via Perpignan, Béziers, etc.
