Well ive read many posts and thought id share my birthing story at burnley. I had my first daughter 5 years ago via c section and so this time round I was very anxious especially after learning my baby would be big as well as wanting to go for a natural birth! My baby boy was due on the 14th June and i had extreme sickness, so much so i was hospitalised 17th jan for 3 days and then on sickness tablets throughout so i thought he would make a sooner appearance but as I got to 40weeks I learnt I was only 3cm dilated and they would leave me to carry on until 12 days over as long as I was monitored and then id be induced. When I reached 9 days over I woke at 1.30am with contractions knowing it was the real thing...by the time id got my partner up and got ready I reached the hospital by half 3 where I was quickly taken to a room, reassured and then examined...I was already a good 5cm! I was only in labour for 5 and a half hours which isnt bad to say he was a whopping 9lb 10oz! I cannot fault the staff who looked after me one bit! They were truly amazing. I started having bad pains in my scar and at 9cm I didnt progress and the monitors were failing to pick up his heart rate (or my contractions properly) so they made the decision (not lightly) to break my waters after we initially believed he would be born in them...39 minutes later he arrived! I then had a bad bleed losing almost 1 litre of blood and instead of a huge panic I was just told people wpuld be coming in to assess the situation, gain control and ask me some questions to check I was okay ... I spent a further 3 days in hospital for a blood transufion and checks. It shows with the right support your body can truly do amazing things! I still thank Samantha my midwife for staying 2 hours after her shift ended (despite being on another shift that night on the ward I was on, fate?!) to see my little man be born and coping with my excessive apologising and handling me afterwards when things went south.
