Well just a note to follow some of my previous post about the Ebola issues we are having! First I am very grateful to work for an organization that takes pride in what they do, we are the first Hospital in Michigan to do such a drill. As you know Annapolis hospital is a priority to Detroit Metro Airport, we get everything that comes to Detroit first. DTW is 1 of only 12 international air ports in the US. So to implement a Ebola drill is a must, we also are the first hospital in the state of Michigan to do so. This was a great experience and learning opportunity to work with the airport authorities CDC and many other governing bodies! Much was gained form the events of the day and I just pray that this becomes under control very soon. If you do not know about Ebola I ask that you to do your home work as this is a very serious and devastating virus with a 50 percent death rate. It can live on a hard surface for over 3 days and has a incubation period of 3 to 21 days. We all need to take steps to keep our family and friends safe. Remember if nothing else wash your hands! Please continue to pray for the healthcare staff and patients that are affected with this virus, I am shocked at the number of cold callus individuals that are so fast to blame staff for taking short cuts with personal protective equipment, I have been a nurse close to 20 years and have dealt with many 3 world diseases and what I learned today is this truly is like no other, I have been involved with hazmat operations for many years and this is not like the usual scenarios. Those that think it is no big deal just let me know I will purchase your airline ticket to go assist in Texas! They will value your help!
