Well, late last night, apparently severely lacking my sense of self-preservation, I curled up in the dark with my all-black cat Sam (see severely lacking, above) and watched the rest of the Episodes in the second season of AMERICAN HORROR STORY: ASYLUM (there were five left, I think). This was very strong stuff, yet surprising at every turn (how often does that happen?) and ultimately satisfying. What with my being me and all, I was rooting down to the closing moments for the (few) relatively-uncorrupted characters to manage as close to a happy ending as was possible, so that kept me engaged amongst all the shocks, horrors, mutilations, violations, and how-can-they-put-this-on-basic-cable moments. I enjoyed Evan Peters Joe-lunchpail wohkin-class-from-Doehchestah accent, as well as Jessica Lange channeling Katharine Hepburns Violet Venable speech patterns. Also--lets face it--on what other program is one likely to find a 1960s Hullabaloo-style dance fantasy sequence set in a madhouse and performed to Shirley Ellis The Name Game?
