Well lets start off with the fun stuff. The pool opened last - TopicsExpress

Well lets start off with the fun stuff. The pool opened last weekend and the girls had a blast. The pool opening at the Kolenda house is a holiday like a birthday or Christmas. The girls count down the days and when the day finally comes they count down the hours until they can swim. We spent the entire holiday weekend at the pool. Emily was so happy to be at her pool. As I watched her slowly swim laps back and forth it occurred to me how peaceful she seemed. She has not been that peaceful in a long time. She is always worrying about When do I have to go back to Sinai? She did not have to think about that while she was doing her laps. Emily loved her special time at the pool. Well like they say, all good things must come to an end. The end happened Tuesday morning when Emily was admitted back into Sinai for treatment. Emily requested to be admitted a week early because next Friday is her birthday. She definitely did not want to celebrate her birthday at Sinai. So she will be here until Monday. She had her chemo last night and is still sleeping. The day that the chemo is given is not the hard day, its the days following the chemo dose. She seems to be very tired today. I was hoping that this time she would not need a blood transfusion, now Im not so sure. The nausea seems to be under control for now. Please pray that it stays under control. Also, Emily is having trouble with a bladder infection that she cant seem to get rid of. She will need to go back to the Univ Of MD to see her pediatric urologist. An infectious disease specialist came and saw Emily yesterday. She said that Emily has a perfect storm to create UTI issues. Between the chemo, Diabetes Insipidus, and the Desmopressin she is a walking time bomb. The doctors are concerned that she is not emptying her bladder all of the way. They made the decision to stop her Desmopressin while she is receiving her Cyclophosphamide to help her bladder empty more. Its always something. We seem to deal with one issue then another issue comes up. Please pray that the doctors can get this issue under control. Emilys birthday is next Friday and she is so excited! She will be 12! I cant believe that she will be twelve years old! It just seems like yesterday she was a tiny little infant screaming in my arms. If you knew Emily as an infant you know how she could scream! You could hear her every and anywhere. I never would have thought that she was going to be my calm and sweet child. She has always been my sweet, kind and thoughtful child. She is the one who would play and be a friend to anyone who wanted to be her friend. I am very proud to be her mother! We will be celebrating her birthday next Saturday at the Sky Zone. Then on the 12th of June, Emily will have a celebration at the pool. An organization called Icing Smiles is making Emily an unbelievable Taylor Swift cake. This organization makes cakes for critically ill children and their siblings. The cake will feed forty plus people. I needed to find a place where there would be a lot of cake eaters, swim team seemed to be the perfect place! Emily is telling everyone that she is having two birthdays this year! If you are a member of our swim team, please be at practice on the 12th to eat cake. I need to feed lots of people cake! The Catonsville Times has written an article about Emily that is in this weeks issue. It is in print and is online. Thank you for your support and prayers.
