Well looks like Sussan Ley MPs start as Health Minister will be an uphill battle from day one. In one of his last acts in the job Peter Dutton announced a reduction in the Medicare Rebate for Doctors who see patients for less than 10 minutes. This is aimed at combating the so-called six minute medicine where doctors game the system by scheduling 10 minute appts so they can get the full rebate for as many as 3 appts in the time allocated for one payment of the rebate. The $20 reduction will most likely be passed on to patients. But....if the Senate gets its way, the change might be struck down or disallowed. 39 votes are needed. So far Jacqui Lambie, Ricky Muir, Nick Xenophon, The Australian Greens have all said they will vote against it. They need Australian Labor Party and one more crossbencher to defeat the Governments regulation. Catherine King is yet to declare what the opposition will do but there are signs they will also fight it.
