Well, mixed feelings today. I visited with my neurosurgeon today - TopicsExpress

Well, mixed feelings today. I visited with my neurosurgeon today to see if there were any problems with my shunt, and he said I was over-draining and turned my shunt up. However, in the course of our visit, his bedside manner left much to be desired. As a consequence, my wife and I have determined that I need to find a neurosurgeon who isnt so full of himself that he thinks hes Gods gift to his patients and that tells me to only come in if I have a problem (since the only way to determine if I have a problem is to come in). My current neurosurgeon is Richard Schmidt at the University of Utah, and based on my experiences with him, I would NOT recommend him to anyone. I only went to him because my pediatric neurosurgeon (Dr. Marion Walker, who is a saint by comparison) said he sends all his former patients to the U of U neurosurgeons. If we could find one closer to home, that would be fantastic. Someone at the pharmacy recommended Dr. Reichman in Provo, but I want to explore all my options. The neurosurgeon needs to accept Medicaid. I also went to see Dr. Weinstein (who after Dr. Schmidt was a breath of fresh air). She gave me information on the new medication she wants to start me on and said that this medication would replace one of the ones Im currently using. She also said that I could take less of my anti-nausea and headache medications as I can tolerate doing so based on how my body responds to this new medication. She wants me to start it on Friday so we can first see what (if any) difference the change in shunt setting makes. Dr. Schmidt did mention one thing that was helpful. He said that my consistently high blood pressure needed to be addressed. So hopefully I can get in to see a doctor at Premier Family Medical on Thursday. Thats the latest on us. Please post any neurosurgeon recommendations below. Thanks, friends!
