Well mixed reviews of vacation. Stayed at a beautiful old hotel. They even upgraded to a deluxe king suite. Cool anniversary perk. It happens to be on second floor. Arrive at room, very impressed with the appointments. Go into bedroom, bed unmade, no sheets. Jonathan gallantry calls front desk says we are going out to eat please have the bed made before we get back. We Park by cathedral and walk 2 long Santa Fe blocks, perhaps 3/8ths of a mile. We had a wonderful supper sharing a bowl if potential and a drink apiece. Then we walked slowly and painfully back to the pickup. Breathing hard enough learning against a building to give my legs time to recover the strength to walk another 150 ft or so nice couple asked if I needed help if they could get me some water reassured them and made the next stretch to a convenient stairs to collapse. Another 200 ft brought me to the Banco on the back of LA Fonda. That left the 500 yards from the corner of LA Fonda to the pickup. By the time we made it to the pickup I was shaking crying and trying to go into shock. Drive back to El Rey, find the last parking place and squeeze my lovely big truck into it. Only to be faced with the gorgeous spiral staircase and followed by another 50 ft to the room. So hot shower good nights sleep and I face the task of doing as Garry had asked me to and sell the first set of his unsmoked pipes. Drove to Stags old location almost falling apart with the memories of the last time I had made the trip. That is when we found they had moved... Across Cerillos from El Rey. Then Baskin Robins and then to the Cathedral to visit our Lady LA Conquistador. We were preparing to walk the labyrinth in front of the Cathedral when that space was invaded by a dance group including a red and blue furry dinosaur filming a video. So stroll to plaza slowly. No buskers. Eat hotdogs from the 5&10 enjoy a wedding procesión led by mariachi that was long enough to stretch two sides of the plaza. Wandered down to Las tablas de los Santos. Wonderful supper leisurely stroll back to pickup. I stopped frequently but no wheezing nor was I in a lot of pain. Missed a turn on way home had an adventure coming back. Got to room tried to open room. Key wont work call front desk Jonathan goes and gets new key set. Start to settle in, close window crank breaks. Call desk tried to say they would fix it in am. Jonathan speaks to them they send man up to fix. Told it was fixed tried to close window, whole crank assembly falls out of window. Call front desk red hair is showing its patern clearly. Finally got the window closed. Still had a wonderful anniversary even if I with my phobia about falling particularly on stairs had to negotiate a lovely spiral staircase twice a day. ☺
