Well most of the snow that we got the other night has melted, but - TopicsExpress

Well most of the snow that we got the other night has melted, but today the weatherman says to expect more snow. If it warms up too much we reckon that well get rain instead. Call us loco, but wed much rather it snow than rain even though that might mean that well have to start feedin hay out to the stock. But at this point the stock can forage on their own a bit longer. Yesterday we got out an fixed the east/northeast pasture fence line where evidently a bull-dozer went through it. Two wires were broken an lots of staples were pulled out of several posts. A good 80 or so feet of fence was tangled up like a ball of yard a kitten has been playin with. The messed up fence was next to a pasture gate - that we had left wide open sos the cows could range for grass in either pasture. Obvioulsy the bull-dozer or an entire fleet of dozers decided not to use the gate. Due to the fence wires gettin pulled taught - before they snapped - the post holdin the gate was partially pulled out an twisted to the side so that the gate sat at a rather high an awkward angle. Both of us climbed up on the far end of the gate to see if we could encourage the post to stand up a bit straighter. Weeee, that was fun, but it didnt do the job so after a few attempts of swingin on the end of the gate we had to quit playin around.....so ended up usin the tractor bucket to straighten it. Okay that worked but the hinges on the post were a tad bit off kilter. So now what do we do? Well, we opened the gate wide so that it would lay back along the fence line. This tactic shifted the post around so that it brought the hinges in the general direction of the opening. Then we added a brace. When we backed off with the tractor everything sprung right back to the way they were. Stupid fence! Okay well do er again. Once we got the gate horizontal again an the hinges lined up with the openin, Kari stood on the opposite end of the gate while Kim backed off the tractor then used one of the heavy tines on the bucket to pound the post so that it was a bit more solid in the ground. We didnt get it perfect but at least its close to the way its spose to be. Then we spiced the two broken wires an tightened every thing up an closed the gate. As we headed back to the house we remembered seein another broken wire in another section of fence so went an spliced it too. We then swung by the shared fence line of the east an northwest pastures an closed that gate also, so now the cows will have to stay in the north an northeast pastures now an we can move the horses over to winter in the east pasture. Photos for today: Snow on an apple that wed not had time, well more correctly the gumption to harvest. And a shot of Kim splicin a busted wire.
