Well my faith in parrot alert has gone down hill a bit actually not recommending Facebook. They have re United 1 bird in the last 2 weeks where we have re United 3. This being there response to my proposition. Ray, We get many requests like this. Weve got our own fb groups we did automatically post to, we ceased because it started causing fragmentation. Our UK group has over 500 members, Australian has over 1000. https://facebook/groups/ParrotAlert.UnitedKingdom/ Were reviewing a better way to post so its not an the detriment of the site. Our goal was designed to use facebook to funnel people to our site and make them aware of a centralised database. People were complaining that they dont/wont use facebook, more and more people are leaving the network and go off to use other sites/apps. Also, there is no way to query and posts are often pushed down the list quickly and cant search it. ParrotAlert v2 is currently in development, this is going to blow away what we currently have. People believe theyll reunite more birds, when, its not the case for the reasons already mentioned and it dilutes what we are trying to achieve. It would be better if there were fewer sites, that could cross reference each other which leads to more focus, rather than dilute it. We would reach a higher rate of success if people were directed via social networks to services like ourselves and John Hayward, who cross checks our site (we had a reunite last week via the 2 of us). There is already a UK group with almost 400 members: Lost Parrots UK - https://facebook/groups/Tazzy2012/ and many more like you. I keep getting added to lost and found facebook groups around the world. Also, some people live in their groups and dont venture outside and share... we monitor them when we can, we also have cross posted our reports to only see them be removed because the group was clique and was empire building, talk about not putting the interest of the bird first. It causes fragmentation and disconnects finders and owners. We are very open and transparent about what we do, some services wont give report/advert owners contact numbers out, you have to go via their 0845 number.. talking about hindering the reunite, and something we dont do and wont.
