Well, my first week of prison nursing is in the bucket. I had so much stinking fun it shouldnt be allowed. I got to work with two inmates with facial lacerations, give an IM injection, pass meds, process paperwork, watch a prostate exam, schedule appointments, work with doctors, process doctors orders, read doctors handwriting (Oi!!), interact with the revolving door of inmates and work with the orderlys (who are also inmates) and officers as well as the regular nursing staff. It was so interesting touring the facilities and learning all the acronyms for the different buildings. I was in the clinic this week and next week Ill get to be in sick call where the nurses kind of act like nurse practitioners. That will be a real challenge for me. Im really excited but at the same time wish it was lasting longer. :)
