Well, my mother has to be reminded three times in ten minutes what she ordered for lunch, but meanwhile, while waiting for her salad, she strongly urges my father to read Ta-Nehisi Coatess article on reparations in the Atlantic. (Or, if you want to turn the sentence around, shes urging my father to read the article but cant remember what she ordered for lunch two minutes ago. Glass half empty, glass half full.) She doesnt remember Ta-Nehisi Coatess name, has to be reminded that the word is reparations, but knows what its about. She wants you all to read it too. My father, meanwhile, is reading Sari Nusseibehs _Once Upon a Country_ (hes too introverted to tell you all to read it, but Im telling you for him, and putting the book on my library list), but he cant hear much any more, even with the high-tech hearing aids, which is very isolating socially and very difficult for all involved. Glass half full, glass half empty. Also, there was a little incident with something left burning on the stove and the fire crew. (Not during my visit, but in the last 24 hours.) Never a dull moment.
