Well off for a hopefully busy week at work. At least for my mind!! Bring on the complicated answers that I have to walk around and pull out obsolete blinds we no longer have parts for and track down a product specialist to tell me what it is and time on the phone with the consumer finding such said part!! Ill even settle for being put on hold while consumer takes blinds down to get me the information I need to look up that blind they have from 1998!! Just numb today. I was mad at myself yesterday partly for what Ive told patients over the years to ease their fears (albeit kidney failure/end stage renal disease) and now realize that it was pointless and useless information. We know as caregivers that it will work out, or disease will run its course not letting it work out, but when that new patient is coming in, those words are pointless. Just assure them that they are going to get the best care for them. I will say my radiation team (yes I know they follow me through Jim Deitrick now, Hi everybody!!) were the best and most honest team to date. Assured me good care, and I got it. No sugar coating, now lies and no false hope, and lots of humor, smiles, and distractions. Since about 100+ people in my friends list are in this profession (I quit counting at 88 and was only to the Js), just think before you speak. That patient there is scared to death. Humor them, let them know you care, but make them laugh or at least smile. Distract them! Talk about the weather or something funny you read on here. Talk about THEIR family.. What pets do they have? Kids/grandkids? What are they wanting to ask questions about? And let them do it and answer honestly. I got lung nodules Im going to work on naming.. Minions are all I can think of but I like them and they are cute!! There are 8 of them so cant be the 7 dwarfs either. Guess they are my octet set for now. Only one is growing, the other 7 set there. But then again, dwarfs are cute too. My octet set are not cute. Neither is Max, whats left of him. Enough he needs surgically removed. Have good week all. No answers for me until next Monday. And answers next Monday are basically next step. Chemo soon, and a port, but that might not be til after surgery. Might be before. Not sure yet. But bring it on I guess. Im ready for next step.
